Thursday, March 17, 2011

March reminds me of school graduation and of education. Skills and experience are also important but as is often the case, an education or a degree more likely help one land the first job which can lead to developing skills and gaining experience.

I came across a newspaper ad about the ASEAN Scholarships being offered by the government of Singapore. I think that's a top-ranked education.

An education obtained from Singapore will undoubtedly put one to a promising start on his/her career path. After graduation, landing a good-paying job in Singapore isn't far-fetch. The best part about this scholarship, is that there is no bond attached.

Almost all scholarships have age requirements. So, I encourage the youth(or their parents) to be interested with international scholarships and take their chance while they are still eligible.

Begin a successful career with the ASEAN scholarships in Singapore.

6 Countries OFWs Should Not Look (or worse, Come) For Jobs at the Moment

Saturday, March 5, 2011

UPDATE [March 17, 2011]:
In a memorandum, DOLE Sec. Rosalinda Baldoz ordered Philippine Overseas Employment Administration (POEA) administrator Carlos Cao Jr. to “immediately effect the deferment in the processing and deployment of all newly hired workers to Bahrain."

- Source: GMANews.tv

UPDATE [March 11, 2011]:

Deployment of overseas Filipino workers to Bahrain is now allowed, both for returning workers and new hires, as per POEA Advisory No. 10.

There are six countries that Overseas Filino Workers (OFWs) are advised not to look for employment at the moment because of civil unrest and political instability. They are Afghanistan, Egypt, Iraq, Libya, Tunisia & Yemen.

The raging unrest in these countries has posed a great problem to Filipinos currently working there - for their safety & repatriation back home. And as such, job seekers are advised to look for jobs elsewhere until things become peaceful and normal again.

GMAnews TV has this nice infographic about the said countries and other relevant data.

Countries not Good for OFWs at the moment
Project head and text: Paolo Ferrer

Research: GMA News Research with reports from Reuters

The turn of events has been rather unfortunate. Add to that the virtually freeze-hiring in Taiwan. But Filipinos are known to be resilient.

I trust that these sad developments will only make OFWs more wiser into which countries are safer and stable for employment.

Can You Afford to Choose your Next Job?

Friday, October 22, 2010

Jobs are unlike destiny because, more often than not, getting one isn't a matter of choice. Landing a job is usually a matter of necessity. Or so I thought.

But in a surprising recent survey, jobseekers still turned out to be idealistic when it comes to looking for employers or companies. Most of those surveyed said will opt for a job they love, flexible sched or telecommute and get hired by eco-conscious green companies.

But even with this idealism of sorts, job seekers surveyed were practical enough to know when they need to settle for other positions. They were amenable to shift in careers and in giving up some benefits to get the job.

Well, I can only give my hat off to, arguably, the gutsiest job applicant ever - Ms. Marisol Valles Garcia. Virtually telling to my face that she could choose the job she wants.

How about you? Can you afford to choose your next job?
