Italy: Amnesty for illegal migrant workers

Illegal migrant workers in Italy may now avail of amnesty program. Amnesty Processing Fee is Five Hundred Euro (€500 ) or about P34,000.00.

Thousands of undocumented Filipino workers may soon find themselves legally staying in Italy when the Italian government grants them amnesty.

Reports said that a new law will soon be enforced that would give amnesty or regularize illegal migrant workers in the service sector including caregivers.

Employers need to pay a processing fee amounting to 500 Euros or P34,000 to legitimize the stay of the their worker.

This Amnesty program for illegal migrant workers in Italy is expected to be implemented in September. That means illegal migrant workers in Italy have at least two more months to save money for the processing fee.

MANILA, Philippines - Filipino workers bound for Saudi Arabia have been advised to make sure that no items in the electronic gadgets they are carrying are in violation of the host government’s beliefs and practices.

Migrante-Middle East said airports in Riyadh, Dammam, and Jeddah are strictly re-implementing procedures in receiving migrant workers carrying electronic devices.

Upon arrival at the airport, the migrant group said all electronic devices are to be submitted for checkup at the immigration section.

These devices include cellular phones with camera and memory card, flash disks, external hard drives, laptops, notebook computers, iPods, and MP3 players with memory cards.[Source]

Filipina Worker in Hong Kong With Swine Flu (H1N1), Critical

A Filipina Worker in Hong Kong is in critical condition due to Swine Flu (H1N1).

HONG KONG—A Filipino maid in Hong Kong was in a critical condition on Sunday in the city's most severe human swine flu case to date, a hospital spokeswoman said.

The 37-year-old woman, who arrived in Hong Kong on June 28 to start her job as a domestic helper, developed a sore throat and fever a day later, a spokeswoman for United Christian Hospital told AFP.

She checked into the hospital on July 7 and was admitted to its intensive care unit in critical condition.

"It is the most severe swine flu case that Hong Kong has found," the spokeswoman said. [Source]

Recruiter sexually abused Filipina workers


Few days ago, a report said that three Filipinos were kidnapped in Cameroon Coast. Now, here's a report about Filipina workers who were sexually abused by a recruiter in Dammam, KSA.


MANILA, Philippines—Two Filipino female workers are preparing to file rape charges against their Arab recruiter in Dammam, Saudi Arabia, even as 20 more workers sought to be rescued from the same recruitment agency over reports that they have been sexually abused too, a global alliance of migrant workers said on Monday.

Garry Martinez, chairman of the Migrante International, said the two Filipina domestic helpers are awaiting the results of their medico-legal tests that would be used to file formal charges before the prosecutor’s office in Dammam against a certain Abu Khalid, owner and manager of Maqpoon Belahodood General Service Company which recruited them to work in Saudi.

Filipinos and Ukrainians seized off Cameroon

Working abroad is full of sacrifices and of course, danger. Here's another kidnapping incident involving OFWs.

YAOUNDE - Three Filipinos and two Ukrainians have been seized from a trawler off the Cameroon coast, a source close to an investigation into the abductions said Thursday.

The same source and a Cameroon newspaper had previously said the five abducted on Monday were all Chinese.

"After verification, it turns out that the hostages are not of Chinese nationality. Three are Filipinos and fishermen (and the others) are Ukrainians and mechanics," said the source, citing the head of a group that was allowed to visit the hostages.

I am Hepatitis B carrier, Can I apply for Canada Immigration?

Are you planning to apply for Canadian Permanent Resident Visa but is worried because your Hepatitis B positive?

Here's what you need to know about medical examination and medical inadmissibility.


The medical examination includes:

* complete physical examination for all family members;
* chest X-ray and a radiologist’s report for everyone aged 11 years and over;
* blood test for everyone aged 15 years or over;
* urinalysis for everyone aged 5 years or over;
* HIV testing for everyone aged 15 years or over, as well as for children who have received blood or blood products, or have a known HIV mother.

You and each of your family members will have to complete your own copy of the Medical Report, where you will have to write your answers to the questions on the form IMM 5419.

Question No. 8 is about Hepatitis.

When there is a history of hepatitis in those older than 15 years of age, the details from the applicant should include the date and type of hepatitis, if known.

Note: If the applicant is not excessive demand exempt, then the results of serum AST and ALT should be provided. If these are abnormal (greater than 1.5 X normal value), then a specialist’s report including hepatitis C antibodies and hepatitis B surface antigen should be provided.

Statutory Minimum Wage for Foreign Domestic Workers in HK

Filipino workers, together with other Foreign Domestic Workers (FDW) in Hong Kong, are pushing for their inclusion to Statutory Minimum Wage.


MANILA, Philippines—Filipino workers in Hong Kong have bonded with workers from other foreign countries in pressing the Legislative Council (LegCo) of Hong Kong to include them in the law that would legislate the wage increase of workers.

The Asian Migrants Coordinating Body (AMCB) staged a protest rally in front of the LegCo building to air their concern as the first reading of the Statutory Minimum Wage (SMW) was held.

Elevator crash in Saudi cuts off OFW's leg


MANILA, Philippines—An overseas Filipino worker (OFW) has lost his right leg in a work-related accident in Dammam, Saudi Arabia after an elevator fell on him recently, Senator Manny Villar said in a statement Monday.

Apolonio “Poly” de Castro Dimaculangan, 35, an electronics and mechanical technician from Batangas, told the office of Villar in an overseas call that he was repairing the company elevator when it suddenly crashed on him, amputating his right leg instantly on May 23.

Drillers in this unit group operate mobile drilling machines to bore blast holes in open-pit mines and quarries and to bore holes for blasting and for building foundations at construction sites. Blasters in this unit group fill blast holes with explosives and detonate explosives to dislodge coal, ore and rock or to demolish structures. Electricians in this unit group lay out, assemble, install, test, troubleshoot and repair electrical wiring, fixtures, control devices and related equipment in buildings and other structures. They are employed by electrical contractors and maintenance departments of buildings and other establishments, or they may be self-employed.

Electricians in this unit group perform some or all of the following duties:

* Read and interpret drawings, circuit diagrams and electrical code specifications to determine wiring layouts for new or existing installations

* Pull wire through conduits and through holes in walls and floors

* Install brackets and hangers to support electrical equipment

* Install, replace and repair lighting fixtures and electrical control and distribution equipment, such as switches, relays and circuit breaker panels

* Splice, join and connect wire to fixtures and components to form circuits

* Test continuity of circuits using test equipment to ensure compatibility and safety of system, following installation, replacement or repair

* Troubleshoot and isolate faults in electrical and electronic systems and remove and replace faulty components

* Connect electrical power to audio and visual communication equipment, signalling devices and heating and cooling systems

* Conduct preventive maintenance programs and keep maintenance records.

* Completion of secondary school is usually required.

* Completion of a four- to five-year apprenticeship program is usually required.

* Trade certification for construction electricians is compulsory in Newfoundland and Labrador, Nova Scotia, Prince Edward Island, New Brunswick, Quebec, Ontario, Saskatchewan, Alberta, British Columbia, Nunavut, the Northwest Territories and the Yukon, and available, but voluntary, in Manitoba.
